Staycation

So, the plan was that Steve ([livejournal.com profile] rootbeer1) and I would fly out tomorrow to Boston, see our friends Joe and Bill ([livejournal.com profile] bearbeat) and drive out to Provincetown for Bear Week. We've done this in 2004 and 2006, so it's becoming a biannual (or is that biennial) event. But as our departure date grew closer, I increasingly felt that what I needed.....was to take a week off from work and do nothing. Nada. Be a slugabed. Languish about the house, nibbling bon bons and reading trashy novels. You see, though I enjoy traveling, it's not relaxing to me--it's stressful. I'm constantly obsessing about what we're doing and where we're going or supposed to be and what we're going to eat and if we're being an imposition and OMG at the end of it all I have to FLY across the country again in a plane....well, it's just not relaxing.

I'm a homebody. I love being home and puttering around the house and making tea and reading books and watching DVDs and lying on the sunny deck. I go several days sometimes (when I can get away with it) never leaving the house, much to the puzzlement of my long-suffering husband (or should I say fiance--we're getting legally married at last this fall).

So, I'm staying home while Steve represents at Ptown, then meets up with Ray ([livejournal.com profile] profkampf) to drive back cross country, including a bit of Canada. I'll miss Joe and Bill and all the other guys, and most of all my Bear, but I feel like a kid who just got out of school for the summer.
