It's always difficult when a new boss swoops into a pre-existing work environment to make changes. Some employees like the way that things are done, and restructuring everyone's workflow might not lead to the kind of efficient results one would necessarily hope to achieve. In fact, most of the time, these employers are projecting onto their new work environment what they think they have learned from prior workspaces. The more mature approach would be to meet employees where they are, ask questions, and see what they think needs to be adjusted so that everyone can be happier and more productive at the office.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of employers seem to have too much pride to embrace listening as the most important tool for a boss. For this new boss, her own warped ideas about how much an employee should or shouldn't work got in the way of an employee's well-deserved and earned time off. When HR got involved, the new boss was surprised to see that in this UK-based office, the employee was in the right.

This worker quit their job in a way that most of us can only dream of!

Have you ever sat at your job and daydreamed about quitting? Maybe you have an office job, and you'd love to wipe that smirk off your boss's face by sending a "reply all" email to the whole office. Or maybe you work in retail, and you'd love to tip a whole table of merchandise to the floor before walking out forever. But of course, most of us don't act on these impulses, as fun and satisfying as they might be. Quitting your job in a crazy way can make it harder for you to line up your next gig. But this person seems pretty justified in the way they answered a notice that their bosses put up… check it out below and see what you think.

Up next, read about the 22-year-old who sparked a family feud after baking a really passive-aggressive cement gray gender reveal cake: "Just make it neutral."

It's hard to imagine this kid growing up with that name. Here's the deal: I don't want to be a traditionalist about anything; that being said, every so often, there comes a phenomenon that makes me realize that the alternative way of doing things may, in fact, be silly and self-destructive. This is not to say that we should all name our babies "Sarah," "Michael," or "Jonathan."

Of course, I welcome the concept of creativity when it comes to name choosing, but only to a certain extent. Some words just shouldn't be names for humans, no matter how pleasant to your ear it may sound. For this guy's sister, there is almost no question that she is going to regret naming her daughter after a common fungal infection. Even if it does sound cool in theory, it is certainly not cool in practice. Keep scrolling below for the full story!

Tipped employees know that their take-home income is mostly made up of tips. Tipped workers earn an hourly wage that dips below minimum wage because it is expected that the tips will make up for the deficit, therefore allowing them to earn at or above minimum wage. When I was a waitress, it felt like Friday at 12 PM couldn't come quickly enough; my credit card tips and hourly wage would be in a pretty little envelope that I'd tear open as fast as possible. Without tips, I probably wouldn't have been able to pay my rent.

The employee who posted this story is in that predicament right now. Their manager texted them explaining that their pooled tips for the last pay period would not be distributed to them or to any other coworkers because one of the team members' mothers just passed away, and she "needs" the money more. This is illegal wage theft, and commenters are urging the employee to take legal action. Who's to say that they're giving the struggling coworker any of the money at all? Scroll to read.

One of the most unfortunate things that can happen in any job is the departure of a trusted boss with whom you have excellent rapport and mutual respect. All that history is gone in the blink of an eye, leaving you to navigate a new dynamic with someone who might have an outlook that isn't congruent with what was formerly the status quo. Now you're starting from square one, left to rebuild your most crucial working relationship with a new personality with whom you might clash, the banter is gone, and the entire balance of the office has been turned on its head.

The worst outcome is that you get some new upstart manager with an ego and a chip on their shoulder, desperate to prove their worth in their new role by making as many changes as possible, putting into place a whole slew of foolish new rules that don't have the effect they were intended to.

It's often been said that the best way to get rid of a foolish rule is to strictly adhere to it, proving its foolishness through the consequences associated with it. Of course, it would be much easier just not to pass the rule in the first place, but if every new supervisor weren't meddling in things they didn't understand, then they'd be out of things to do.

Watching a coworker steal your work right in front of you can leave you with your jaw on the floor. Sometimes your boss may take credit for your work, which is irritating, but since they're your boss, you might just have to roll with it. But when it's your coworker, that can be quite frustrating. After spending days making a PowerPoint presentation (or "slide deck" as the professionals call it these days) you want all the credit where it's due!

Sadly, there are plenty of reasons why you might not be able to call your coworker out on their thievery, though. For example, maybe it's technically a group project, and they put in just 2% of the effort. Or maybe you want the boss to know you're a team player, so you bite your tongue instead of tattling. At least this person got some excellently planned petty revenge on their coworker — and the CEO was the first to see their plan in action! In the comments, other people shared their own stories of the ways they've gotten back at their thieving coworkers. Never give up, there's always a way to plot the pettiest revenge possible!

When someone decides to move into a new place, they usually have a list of things they want to have in their new home. The number of bedrooms, an in-unit washing machine, or an elevator in the building are a few examples of what someone might put on their list before beginning their journey of looking for their next home.

One thing that perhaps not many people think about putting on their list is the parking situation. It's not just about having an assigned space for your vehicle, it's also about the general parking situation in the neighborhood, which can affect you either way.

If one decides to move into a street or neighborhood where the parking is scarce, they may find themselves in a number of uncomfortable situations. First, inviting people over is an issue, since they would have nowhere to park their car, and can really come to resent you every time you invite them over. Second, a crowded neighborhood can feel really suffocating to live in, and you would just end up feeling uncomfortable walking down these streets.

Lastly, no parking means annoyed drivers, and annoyed drivers mean neighborly disputes, just like what happened in the story below.

Comics Curmudgeon readers! Do you love this blog and yearn for a novel written by its creator? Well, good news: Josh Fruhlinger's The Enthusiast is that novel! It's even about newspaper comic strips, partly. Check it out!

Hi and Lois, 5/15/25

Sorry, Hi: today’s teens would never try to read something and listen to something else simultaneously. Instead, they focus all their attention on one thing at a time so they can truly be present in the moment with a text or song. They call it “monotasking” and it’s an explicit rejection of the brain-scattered, information-overload world that your generation (Xennials) created. Get with the times, old man!

Gearhead Gertie, 5/15/25

The ironic thing here is that Gertie obviously owns the NASCAR Official Collector’s Edition of Monopoly that Parker Brothers put out in 1997, but she refuses to open the shrink wrap because she thinks it will lose its value. Gertie, you can buy that game on eBay for $12! You gain nothing by annoying your grandson like this.

Shoe, 5/15/25

I really enjoy the dynamic here where the Perfesser announces that he wants to do something fun that might be a little outside his comfort zone, and his boss, who he hates but is nevertheless spending his precious free time with, shits all over the idea. I assume that in panel two the Perfesser is getting a big whiff of Shoe’s cigar, which also must be pretty unpleasant for him.

The Lockhorns, 5/15/25

I like how downcast Leroy looks here. He knows this terrible pun is a subpar effort, but it’s all he can come up with, and what’s he going to do, not say something vaguely critical of his wife while she’s doing something she enjoys?

Sometimes, and sadly, more often than not, a feud between two people drags bystanders and innocent beings into the dramatic mix. How many of us found ourselves as kids in the middle of a feud between our parents, often even demanded to choose sides? How many times have we been subjected to listening to a fight between two passengers on the bus, even though we have nothing to do with either of them?

Every time a feud like that happens, there are always going to be those who are affected by it, but shouldn't be. It could be children, helpless bystanders, or, in the case of the story below, trees.

A dispute between two neighbors often means that others are going to get involved, whether they like it or not. Usually, the involvement is of other neighbors, sometimes law enforcement, and in the cases of the stories we share here, strangers online. So when the two neighbors in this story decided to use innocent trees as the subject of their disagreement, people had a thing or two to say about that…

Neighbors will often surprise you in the most inconvenient and infuriating ways. Just when you think you understand them inside and out, they will decide to build fences on your property, throw loud parties during the work week, and, as was the case here, park exactly where they have been told not to do so.

Now, under most circumstances, we allow a grace period for innocent mistakes. Perhaps there was an emergency that would justifiably explain why your neighbor opted to park in your personal garage, thereby blocking your own car from your own driveway. That being said, you would think that in an emergency, this person would notify you in some way beforehand, even if it's last minute, before invading your property without your expressed approval.

Every company has information it does not want to get out to anyone outside. There is confidential information that should only stay within the company walls, so it has to be in the hands of people who can handle that. Every company has those who are trustworthy and can handle the responsibility of keeping that information to themselves, and those who everyone knows can't keep a piece of information to themselves for longer than a couple of hours.

Sometimes, a confidential document reaches the hands of someone who belongs to the latter group, and that might lead to some panic in the company. In a matter of minutes, that document can be seen by people who have no business seeing it, and who knows what bureaucratic mess that might lead to.

The way a company handles that mess depends on the workers' ability to calmly put out the fires. If they can't do that, it might lead to stories like the one below…

Having a great a neighbor is the best! It's comforting knowing there is someone living next to you that you know cares at least a little about you. It's even better when you befriend that neighbor, because then you know the caring goes even further. So if anything goes wrong, there is someone right next door that you can turn to for help. Or, if they do become your friend, there is someone right next door that you can reach out to if you just wanna hang out or need someone to talk to. Everyone wants a good neighbor.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to always be the case. Even if you have lived next to someone for two decades, that doesn't mean you will eventually befriend them. They can always be your nightmare. And that seems to be the case with this woman who has been at her place for over 20 years…

Not everyone deserves to get fired, but some people make it impossible for their bosses to keep them around.

Firing an employee is often the worst-case scenario for an employer. They'd rather have that person quit if possible, so sometimes employees receive numerous warnings or get put on a performance improvement plan. These things should clue the employee into the fact that their employer is not happy about how things are going, and that they should start seeking new work ASAP. But for some employees, getting fired is the only way to make them realize just how badly they're really doing at their job.

Up next, read about this 16-year-old who quit his job after his parents spent years giving away his money to his younger siblings: "My parents are bad with money and they spoil my younger siblings."

This dude's stepsister sounds like a menace. I wouldn't want her to set foot within a mile of my personal items, so I certainly do not blame this 21-year-old for not wanting to babysit his entitled 13-year-old stepsister for an entire week in the small apartment he shared with his girlfriend.

Look, it's great that this guy's dad found love again and is getting married later in life—good for him! However, welcoming his future stepdaughter into the family is his responsibility, not his son's. On top of that, the fact that this guy's father is well aware of how much of a menace this spoiled brat is just goes to show that he isn't considering his biological kid's well-being and sanity at all. Instead, he just wants to dump all the responsibility that comes with reining in this teenager's wild impulses onto his own son. Just because the dad is signing up to have this kid in his life moving forward does not mean his son has to sign up for all the responsibilities too!

It's another day of hitting snooze on the alarm too many times. Now you're rushing to get to work on time, you've only had time for a coffee, no breakfast, you still get to work five minutes late. Now you have to plop yourself in front of a screen for eight hours and cannot leave unless it's for a quick lunch. But let's be honest, you have too much work to do before lunch, so you opt for an office snack at your desk. Isn't this fun?! You only have the rest of your life to do this every single day—or risk homelessness… Yay! Get that bread, bestie!

Please, I need a break. Even PTO days aren't used for breaks. I need a week of sleep. How does one get paid to do that in a respectable way and not a dark web one? RIDDLE ME THIS?! Ha.. Ha.. Jk, I love my job. Enjoy these memes!

When a micromanager tells an employee to stop everything they're doing and to prioritize something else, they better be careful about unforeseen consequences. In this instance, an entitled boss thought it was a good idea to delegate a project that would take days to complete to the person who also does payroll at the company… right when payroll is typically prioritized and processed.

Now if there is one thing all bosses should know to avoid, it's messing with other people's pay. That could manifest itself in a variety of ways in the workplace, but among the most common scenarios are delaying payment, denying overtime pay, and rejecting well-deserved promotions. Any time a boss has directly or inadvertently done any of the above, it's an immediate red flag. Keep scrolling below to see how some workplace malicious compliance was the proof this boss needed to see for him to know he was prioritizing the wrong project!
